  • Interview with Ash Camas, architecture photographer

Today we get to know Ash Camas and her excellent minimalist architecture photography. Ash is very popular on Instagram where her account, adyy_cam, has over thirty thousand followers!

Name: Ash Camas

Genre: Architectural Photography

Gears: Nikon D3400 and Iphone 11

How did you get started as a photographer?

I began to take street art photography as a hobby nearly a decade ago. I documented them on my Instagram page.

What is the first photo you have ever shot?

I don’t remember the first photo, but my first public post was a mural by JR.

Why did you choose architectural photography in particular?

I am an avid fan of minimalist aesthetics and contemporary design. All these simple but impressive geometric shapes, shades, patterns, lines, lead me into different worlds and modern architecture helps me create my own geometric composition.

What makes a good picture stand out from the average?

Let me speak for architectural photography. Aesthetically pleasing photos are always a winner. For this to happen, a harmonious composition and unique perspective are necessary. Vibrant colors, and visually pleasant continuity in any type of geometric patterns also attracts the viewer.

Who are the photographers you are getting inspiration from and why?

I don’t have any specific ones, but I get a lot of inspiration from following a variety of photographers through social media. Each one of them teaches me to look at things from different perspectives.

Can you tell us about the most memorable photo you have ever shot and what made it so special?

The most memorable picture I have is "Isolation". I took this photo in 2019, but two years later, I feel that it represents the way we all feel during this pandemic. The photo shows a series of empty squares, with one square occupied by a lonely bird.

What is your essential camera equipment? (three pieces of your camera equipment you couldn’t live without.

I take  my camera bag everywhere, so I’d like to keep my gears to a minimum. I always carry my camera and three lenses with me. Standard (AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm), Wide Angle ( AF-P DX 10-20mm), and Telephoto lens ( AF-S DX 55-200mm).

Why have you decided to join 100ASA?

A friend of mine recommended me and I am very impressed by the whole experience. If you are serious about photography and wish to know more, you should definitely consider joining us.
