Hello Peppe
Let's start from the beginning
My name is Peppe Tambè and I am a photographer. I live in Caltanissetta and I am the nursing coordinator at the mental health centre where I have been working for about 30 years. On the film front, I can give homage to 'noir' cinema, which I honour in my portraits. In the literary field, I prefer reading choral novels with multifaceted characters.
Another contribution to growth has come from Sicilian culinary culture, which I have always seen as a testimony to beauty. I combine it with my constant physical activity and sports to feel good and stay healthy.
And now let’s focus on photography... How did you get started in photography?
I started taking photographs with an Agfa bought in Germany by my father and I would shoot every time I was struck by a landscape, an object, or a person. I have not stopped since and, thanks to my personal and professional life, I am always in contact with many people who always leave me something: a glance, a smile, or a facial expression that can reveal the soul that I try to immortalise in photography.
How do you think your life experience affects the photographs you take?
Besides photography, another passion of mine is theatre. Acting has contributed to my cultural growth and artistic training, which then flowed into my way of doing photography
How did other photographers influence your work?
I am self-taught and the greatest influence I have had is from 'film noir' photographers
How would you define your style in photography?
I have a particular style that is a little bit portrait and a little bit beauty.
Are you a fisherman or a hunter, photographically speaking? Do you start from a predefined idea or does photography suddenly appear?
I feel like a hunter photographer because I go in search of a specific image that is outlined in my mind even before I look at the lens.
What equipment do you use - cameras, lenses...?
I use a Canon 5D Mark 3 with an 85 mm 1.8 lens
What software do you use to process your photographs?
I only use Photoshop to process the photos.
What is your favourite photo and why?
I don't have any favourite photos but if I had to point to one it would be "motherhood'" because it represents life in its natural evolution.
What turns an image into a good image? What does make it stand out?
I believe that an image turns into a good picture because of its ability to communicate, i.e. to overcome perceptual filters and get straight to the heart of the viewer. This happens through the right light, the right look and the pose.
What are your tips for beginner photographers?
For beginner photographers, I recommend working on the style they feel most inclined to in order to bring out their full potential.
What are your plans and ideas for the next projects?
At this stage of my life, I am focused on exploring my narrative potential and it is on this that I am building my next projects.
Why did you decide to join 100ASA?
I chose to be part of 100ASA because it is a great photography site but also a place where people who share the same passion can meet and confront each other.
